Primary School Safety Surface Climbing Play Tower

Schoolscapes worked closely with Westerton Primary Academy in Leeds to deliver a brand new climbing play space for their pupils. The academy wanted to introduce a dedicated area where children could develop their physical skills through active, adventurous play, while ensuring the project met all of their Trust’s documentation and procedural requirements throughout.

Working within a multi-academy trust means there are additional layers of compliance and governance that need to be satisfied at every stage of the project. From initial design through to sign-off, our team ensured that all Trust documentation and procedures were fully met, giving the school complete confidence in the process from start to finish.

What We Installed

The centrepiece of the project was the installation of our Adventure Forest 2 Climber, a dynamic piece of playground equipment designed to encourage children to explore play at different heights and levels. The structure features multiple access points and varied climbing challenges, meaning children can choose their own route and level of difficulty each time they use it.

This variety is key to keeping children engaged and coming back for more. Whether they are building confidence on the lower elements or pushing themselves to reach the top, the Adventure Forest 2 Climber supports children of different abilities while helping to develop agility, coordination and balance through active play. It is the kind of equipment that grows with the children, offering new challenges as their skills and confidence develop over time.

Wet Pour Safety Surfacing

To ensure the climbing space was as safe as possible, wet pour safety surfacing was installed in accordance with the required safety guidance for the equipment’s critical fall height. The wet pour was laid directly onto the existing tarmac surface, providing a seamless, impact-absorbing finish that cushions falls and reduces the risk of injury.

Wet pour rubber is an ideal choice for climbing areas because it can be tailored to meet specific critical fall height requirements, ensuring compliance with safety standards while still looking attractive and inviting. Its seamless finish means there are no loose edges or trip hazards, and it holds up well under heavy daily use throughout the school year.

Delivery and Installation

Our team managed the entire project from initial consultation through to completed installation, working closely with the academy and their Trust to ensure every step of the process was fully documented and compliant. We understand that academy trusts often have specific procurement and governance procedures, and we were happy to work within these requirements to deliver a smooth, efficient project.

The result is an engaging climbing space that encourages physical activity, builds confidence and promotes adventurous play. The children at Westerton Primary Academy now have a dedicated area where they can challenge themselves, develop key physical skills and enjoy active playtime in a safe, well-designed environment.
