Lowerfields Primary School
A long and rectangular Early Years tarmac playground, that was very uninspiring, required both physical and imaginative play equipment. The playground was transformed with a variety of play opportunities and a mixture of soft surfaces. The climbing frames provide physical challenge that aids in the development of gross motor skills. The landscaped area includes a Mud Kitchen, which allows both imaginative and creative play within a self-contained space. We have incorporated elements of nonprescribed play to encourage the children to develop their imagination. The area is now much more exciting and has allowed the children to develop confidence and play cooperatively.
The A-frame climbers gave the children a challenge, the children seemed to impose their own restrictions and as the year went on we saw the difference in confidence and ability. J. Barraclough, Early Years Coordinator
